Doug,

His tombstone reads as I said:

James Drenning

CO.E

31st MO.INF
And I recently ran onto a copy of Pension Application I had
copied off some micro-film on Ancestry.com which another gentleman from the message board said made since. On it it
said he served in both the 31st & 32cd Infantry. He said that those two regiments were consolidated in 1864.
And on the back of this paper I had copied some Cival War
Records that list as follows:Surname:Drenning,Given Name:
James,Middle Initial:__Unit:31st Mo.Inf.,Rank at Induction:
Sergeant,Rank at Discharge:Sergeant,Notes:Drining,James
Allegiance:Union
I am assuming the notation in name spelling is because the clerk where he enlisted wrote it down wrong.Because there are several other such notations about different spellings
of soldiers by the name of Drenning.
However his brothers were the ones who supposedly had his tombstone made up and brought it here to put on his grave.
So Drenning has to be the proper spelling.
On the pension record it says a Polly A.Drenning was the applicant. But it's not a clear copy showing what city she
was from.I think I ran across some info stating he enlisted
right across the river from us in Moselle,Mo.And the other gentleman that responded to my message said that a CO.C was
stationed at the Moselle Railroad Bridge while it was being
organized.

Thanks For The Responce!

Rhonda
