John Harvey Richerson--where in MO served?

Hi, I am in a quandry as to research and was writing in hopes of someone pointing me in the right direction to go! My husband's 3x'sggrandfather was John Harvey Richerson (I have seen the last name spelled Richardson in the 1880 census:) According to homestead papers, obituaries and the 1900 Oklahoma census, he was born in Missouri in December 1837 (I do not know what county--I have tried to find him living with or near his parents, who were born in Kentucky, in the 1850 census and have also tried to find him married to Mary Frances (? maiden name) with a 2 year old son, James Rice Richerson, in the 1860 census....to no avail yet:) John Harvey Richerson died in 1904 in Roger Mills County, Oklahoma--he made the land run there in 1892.

I have reason to believe that he served on the Confederate side of the Civil War in Missouri (he was still residing in Missouri in 1865 where my gggrandmother, Mary Frances was born)....I recently found a listing of his tombstone and the writing on the stone says:

John H. Richerson 12-20-1837, 10-17-1904 husband of Polly

1861-1865 Deo Vindice-Civil War

Also an aside....he named a son Robert E. Lee Richerson:)

Could anyone point me in a direction to research for John H. Richerson in the Civil War?-- he is very elusive!
Thank you so much!
