Jim: are you talking about Col. Henry Clay Taylor of the MSG? There was a St. Louis Military Academy that existed 1844-46, run by 2 graduates of Norwich U., Andrew J. Dorn and James V. A. Shields. St. Charles College in that town had a military program c. 1861, run by the Schenck brothers. There was also a Wyman's High School in St. Louis (1843-53) and a Wyman's School (sometimes known as city university) 1859-61, both having cadet programs. Those are the only ones in the area I know of. Do you have Col. Taylor's age?
