Tim,

Someone made this easy for you.

Major W.M.G Torrence of 1st Iowa Cavalry led his mixed cavalry force of 500 against Colonel John A. Poindexter's camp of 800 southern recruits at Roan's Tanyard on Silver Creek near Roanoke, southwest Randolph County, early the morning of 8 January 1862.

This plus the seven sources are noted on pages 16,17, and 216 of "Guerrilla Warfare in Civil War Missouri, 1862" published this year by McFarland and Company, Jefferson, NC. I know the author really, really well. Perhaps you can see a copy via interlibrary loan through your local library.
