Sinking Creek, Shannon County

My gg-grandfather, Adam Monroe Mead, was killed during the Civil War, probably 1864, near Sinking Creek, Shannon County. The story is that he was walking along the road between 2 mills he operated when he was shot by bushwackers/guerrillas/?. His wife, returning from town in a wagon, found him lying in the road with his dogs.

I have not been able to locate Sunking Creek on a map. Does anyone know where it is/was? Also, what guerrilla groups were most likely to be operating in that area in the last half of the Civil War?

Thanks for the help.
