William H. McCown (or McCowan)

I am trying to obtain information about a William H. McCown (or McCowan) presumably from Missouri. In April 1862 he was commissioned a Lieutenant Colonel by General Sterling Price and sent to Texas to organize a Scouting Battalion at Waco. Charles A. Hamilton was commissioned as Major. The battalion does not appear to have been organized. McCown (or McCowan) helped organize Gurley's 30th Texas Cavalry (Partisan Rangers). There was a Captain William H. McCowan in Company F, 2nd Cavalry, 2nd Brigade, 8th Division, Missouri State Guard. This may be the same person.
