In Response To: Maj. James Wilson ()

Others and I have looked into this matter. Some for a long time. I have been at St. Johns Luthern Cem. and talked to Paster Brown. There is the belief that 6 Union solders are baried in the center of the cem. The justice of the peace is baried next to the unmarked grave site of the solders. I have found 5 names, and a unknown solder. I have searched local inquest records with no result. An had also looked a the county court records without results.
This area of Franklin County had substantal Southern simpithiers, and germans. The reason the graves were unmarked, and local records don't exist was for fear of reprisals. The farm which the bodies were found in fact, had been that of a slave holder, A.W. Jefferies. The exact area of the Cem. is just north of Beaufort 1 mile off of Mo. State Highway 185, then west on Lutheran Church Road, 1/2 Mile.
