Actually the Dr. Alford of Vandalia was Redmon Lee Alford, son of Thompson and Martha. Thompson was a farmer all his life and owned several mullatto slaves in 1860 as did his father in law Fielding Yager (10 total!) Dr. R. Lee Alford (b aug 1872) married Susie McPike (another founding family of Vandalia) never owned slaves but did sign his own father's death certificate!
