Re: Did Lafayette Roberts of Cedar Co. Survive CW?

Bruce;

Actually I suspect the John Jackson Roberts clan moved to Fannin Co TX during the war. Likely after June 1862 when Samuel E. Roberts got in trouble with the Provost Marshal. The only member of the family I can conclusively put back in Missouri post war is Lafayette's sister Mary A Roberts who married Guian L. Walker son of LTCol B F Walker of the "Stockton Greys", who returned to Stockton Cedar County in 1866 after being married in Fannin Co TX in September 1865. I've scoured every 1870 census in MO, TX, and Arkansas for a likely fit for Lafayette N. "Pete" Roberts and found only one entry for a Lafayette Roberts in Sandyhook Scott Co as a boarder/farm laborer aged 16. I don't think that is the same fellow as his age would be 12 years older and not likely misstated by the enumerator by that much if they met. 1880 is even thinner pickings. Can anybody else help, I'm all ears!
