Clinton, MO - John Wesley Hood of Shawnee Mound has made the great adventure. After a long illness with heart trouble and complications, he left earthly friends and environments Wednesday, June 27, at 9:30 p.m. at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Charlie Cleek, 205 North Carter street, Clinton, who moved him to her home a few weeks previous that he might have better medical attention and be cared for by his son, Charlie. Mr. Hood, the son of Matilda and Jones Hood, was born in Lawrence County, Missouri, January 12, 1856. He was united in marriage August 10, 1879, to Miss Delilah Frances Yandall, who was born and reared near Shawnee Mound, where, with the exception of a few years in Clinton, they have ever since made their home. There were born to this union two daughters, Mrs. Wesley Ford, Chilhowee, and Mrs. Charline Cleek of Clinton, and two sons, Charlie Hood of Clinton, and Sherman Hood, near Chilhowee. Besides the widow, Mrs. Delilah Hood, and four children, Mr. Hood had 12 grandchildren and one great grandchild, and an aged sister, Mrs. Joe Upton of Hillsdale, Kans. Mr. Hood was a member of the Presbyterian church at Shawnee Mound, having been converted early in life. He loved the great outdoors and was a hard working man. The past year during his declining health, his ambition to work was far in excess of his physical strength. Had he striven less he might have lived longer. He was a faithful husband, a devoted father and a good neighbor and his many friends will sorrow with the family in the loss of their dear one. The funeral was held at the Wilkinson Funeral Chapel on Friday. Burial was in Englewood Cemetery.

I've not found a burial record or POW record for him at this point, but at least we know where he came from.
John R.
