Hi,

There is a John R Thompson served as 2nd Lieutenant in Col. Martin E. Green's 1st cavalry regiment, 2nd division of MO State Guard listed Bartels The forgotten men p357 and MO state archives. Does this unit match Lincoln Co.?

Also, a bio. sketch done 60 yrs later by a grandson in law states " In his earlier life J. R. Thompson was a steamboat captain, Together with a company of other men in Louisiana, Missouri, he is the owner of a line of river steamers, and they are conducting a thriving business in that line of industry. Mr. Thompson served in the union army captain which he raised for the service, and did valiant duty for the cause during the period of his enlistment."

I cannot find a record of him in the union army. Does anyone know where I could find USA or CSA records for Lincoln Co. thanks
