George, thanks for this information. Jackson seems to be fitting into the 'whatever happened to Sam Hildebrand's rifle, Kill-devil' story. In conjunction with a prominent historical repository, I'm in the midst of provenancing an alleged remnant of it, and this information locks things in a little bit tighter. More work needs to be done, after which I should be in a position to let interested parties know what's what on this angle of the Hildebrand saga. In the meantime, if anybody could tell me what Jackson did after the surrender, that would help, too. And does anybody know of any rosters (online or otherwise) for the different incarnations of Burbridge's cavalry command?
