The 8th Cavalry MSM was a rough unit from its beginnings--one of those shoot first and ask questions later outfits. A few of its men got so bad they deserted and turned renegade in SW MO and other Union troops had to hunt them down. I would expect to see some of their toughs working off somebody else's kill list.
