There is an interesting diary of Pvt later Sgt Fletcher Pomoroy of the 7th Kan Cav USV . It can be viewed at www.4.pair.com. or just type in 7th Kansas calvery and you will find a link. of intrest the 7th Kan has 3 companies from Il and one from OH. They were better equpped then many US cav regiments. They fought in Mo in 1861 and early 1862 and fought under Gen Grant and Sheriden in numerous battles in Miss, Al and Tenn. They also fought in 1864 against Price. It makes a good read.
