Speaking of the War and the college:
Dr. John McCargo Angell attended the University of Missouri almost immediately upon its establishment. The 1878 University of Missouri Catalogue states that the “first MD degree in 1849 was given to John M. Angell.”
The inscription on his headstone indicates that he died (was killed) 22 July 1864 by the 3rd Cavalry MSM.
