Albert J. Martin/Levi Lincoln/G.R. Zimmerman

I found the Albert J. Martin narrative quite interesting--particularly the information about Levi Lincoln, one of the seven prisoners singled out for execution near Union, Mo. (although Mr. Lincoln apparently got away). It sound like the Confederate troops were intent on identifying Lincoln and that his comrades went to some effort to try to disguise him. After his name is called out for the third time, he finally responds, telling Martin "they will get me anyhow." That certainly sounds like a man who knows he's being hunted.

Has it already been surmised that the Confederate forces were fixated on catching and executing Levi Lincoln for the role he played a month earlier in the killing of George Rufus Zimmerman? (His execution and Lincoln's involvement are vividly described in previous postings to this bulletin board by Zimmerman's descendants.) I know that Col. Timothy Reeves was hell-bent on capturing and executing Maj. James Wilson. It seems to me that other people were just as determined to bring retribution down upon Levi Lincoln.
