My great 3 grandfather, Pleasant Smelcer, was in Company E of the 4th MO Cavalry in the Confederate Army. His records state that he deserted on 10 Jul 1863. Where would his unit have been at that time, and what do you think happened to him? I don't believe he ever returned to his home in Pulaski County, MO.
