Neil,

I'm having a problem with this puzzle. You see, as of the date 16 July 1864 the 2nd Colorado Cavalry was divided into two parts with part barely holding their own in west-central Missouri against George Todd's (formerly part of Quantrill's) guerrillas while Colonel Ford and the rest of the 2nd was north of the Missouri River chasing down Confederate Lieutenant Colonel Thornton's insurgency across eight or ten counties. Further, I found NO record that tells me two of the 2nd's troopers were killed travelling the Fayette to Huntsville Road in Howard or Randolph Counties on July 16. They just would have no business being that far east of the rest of their regiment at that date. Further, Bill Anderson's band had just raided his old hometown of Huntsville on July 15 and his band was riding south toward sanctuary in Howard County and would have gladly killed two troopers of any Yankee unit they came across.

Now, if you are saying two troopers of the "Mountain Boomers" were killed on that road on AUGUST 16, 1864, we have another story. If that possibly what you mean?
