One of my former History professors at Call State Northridge when he was in the army republished the then forgoten USMC 1940 "Small wars manual. Robert Mackey who wrote "The Uncivil War irregular warfare in the upper south 1861-1865 " argues that Gen. Hindman was greatly influenced by the Spanish resistence to Napolean in early 1800's and Fellmen pointed out that Gen .Hallecks order to shoot captured bushwackers was also influenced By Napoleans Spainsh exerience with Guerrillas which is where of course that term originated. So perhaps what happened in Mo influenced other but I don't know for sure.
