The Missouri in the Civil War Message Board

After reading the last three e-mails, I really don't see anything wrong with what is being said, just as I know that others would point out simliar issues regarding Missourians during and before the Civil War along the border. As far as Jim Lane goes, I have heard comments of praise about his strategy of bringing American Indians and African Americans into the War as troops, and his speaking ability was a rallying point for Kansans, while ignoring his many faults. These individuals focus their on guerrillas like Quantrell, Anderson, Thrailkill.

I would suggest that the American Civil War was different than our being the object of terrorists such as Osama Bin-Laden and Jihadist extremists. This isn't quite a war of brother against brother... but then we should not forget that Osama Bin-Laden was an American hero during Afghanistan's war against the Russians. That he turned against America, fostered a terrorist approach to us, and is willing to sacrifice men, women, children, innocent and military alike, puts this group beyond my ability to make historical comments. I just don't see any comparison.
