The Missouri in the Civil War Message Board

George Caleb Bingham

I did not realize until recently how conspicuously Bingham was involved in the war and its controverseys:
o Was a Union officer and official in Missouri's Union state government
o Published a critique of Jennison, perhaps contributing to his failure to be re-instated
o Owned the building in KC used as a jail for women, which collapsed shortly before the Lawrence raid
o Protested with Ewing after Order No. 11 was announced, resulting in the famous painting
o After the war, was sued by Col. Ransom of the 6th Kansas over Bingham's citicisms of his role in plundering in Missouri (see link, Panel 27)

Is anyone aware of any literature or documentation dealing comprehensively with these various events? Is there anything else notable I am leaving out?
