Benteen also escaped an earlier steamboat sinking that previous summer when the Steamer B.M. Runyan hit a snag on the Mississippi River near Greenville, Mississippi and sank. All of the regimental records for the 10th Missouri Cavalry were lost. I did not report the sinking of the "Maria" in my book on the 10th MO Cav as I did not find them. Thanks!
