I cannot address your specific questions, because I do not know the answers, but I can give you some direction regarding some of the things you mentioned from your research.

You mentioned that William M. Morgan's dad, George W. Morgan, joined the 8th Cavalry MSM at Linn Creek. This sounds right, as the 8th was recruited primarily in southwest Missouri, and Linn Creek was a town in Camden County (home of present-day "Lake of the Ozarks") that I consider part of SW MO.

I never heard of "Lime Creek." Further, I searched for it in Ramsay's and Moser's online historic Missouri place name files, and they never heard of it either. This leads me to conclude that "Lime Creek" is probably "Linn Creek."

All this brings me to the points that William M. Morgan could have joined a unit in or near his Glasgow, Fayette County, NE Missouri home or like his pop joined up in Linn Creek, Camden County, in SW MO. Since Fayette County was strongly southern in sympathy, it would have been a good idea to join a Union unit far from home, and lots of men did that for such reasons to spare problems to their families.

With that in mind, you may wish to examine those records of "W. Morgan" and "William Morgan" entries in the online Missouri Secretary of State, Missouri State Archive, military service records for men of those names who enrolled or enlisted in the counties of Chariton and Howard Counties (for Glasow) and Camden, Laclede, Dallas, Hickory, Morgan, and Benton Counties (for Linn Creek). I know this is workable because I did it this morning, but I just got off midnight shift at work and my notes are unreadable. I do remember that I found several promising individuals from several of those counties I listed above. When I am awake a bit more, I will try to help you further in the near future.
