Thanks very much. The lock is marked "Peter Neff & Sons Warranted", so now that makes more sense. At one time I thought I could see a faint "NORRIS" on top of the barrel, but my eyes are too old now to say for sure. I've never taken it apart and would not attempt that now. It's a family treasure, as I'm sure yours is, and that will have to do for now. I have pictures of it I can e-mail, if you're interested.
