Sorry. I missed your reply somehow. This is quite the mystery. My means are limited, but I am surprised what little I have or found on this man. It appears we have more on his sons than him.

I wonder if we obtained the information that he was a colonel from the Union report of the fight near Syracuse. I read of cases where older men of military experience from before the Civil War volunteered as drill masters, trainers, and recruiters and went so far as to lead their recruits to some command before returning home. Is it possible that Mr. Eades was in the process of merely guiding these men to another recruiter when he was killed? I have to admit that I haven't reviewed the material on this case in a while, but my notes are clear that I could find little on the gentleman.
