I am looking for some assistance on solving a family mystery. My great great grandfather, John Wink, was born in Holland in 1818. He immigrated to the US and moved to Brunswick in Chariton County, Missouri. According to family legend, he was a Southern sympathizer who disappeared in the middle of the night. Supposedly, Union soldiers came, took John Wink away, and shot him. He left a wife and daughter (my great grandmother). Has anyone heard of a John Wink being taken away by Union Soldiers? What documents and resources can I research on this topic? Where can I find these documents and resources? Any information on John Wink will be greatly appreciated!
