Thanks, I missed that card. In his confession he says.
"From there I was sent to Demopolis, Alabama, with the rest of the prisoners"
That was after his parole in Vicksburg. Of course men taken prisoner were often thought to have deserted.
I notice the age given is 26 too. If that's true, he was born 1837-38, not 1842.
He seems to have stretched the truth at times.
