In a biography written in 1920s, "George Washington Harvey" (aka Wash) of Butte County California claimed to have worked as a scout in Missouri. He was 16 at the start of the war and was from Bates County. I've found references to groups of scouts--a union outfit; individual scouts; etc. Does anyone know of databases or archives that might include the names of these scouts. I am wondering whether adjutant records might include pay records. Or something at NARA...or MO Secretary of State? Or maybe all three? Suggestions?
