Four Mile Deadshots
In Response To: Re: Red Rovers, MSM ()

The Four Mile Deadshot and Kill Devil monikers both appear in Cyrus Peterson's book on Pilot Knob. "They're some of old Captain Rice's 'Kill-Devils,' and Hummel's 'Four Mile Deadshots'...."

Don't know exactly why Rice's Company stopped being referred to as the Red Rovers, but it appears to have been around the time of Stony Battery. Anyway, I have found references up until around that time, and none later on.

In going through the Peterson Papers, I came across an explanation on where the Four Mile Deadshots name came from, and it related to a trooper in Company K taking an extremely long shot at a fleeing Rebel, and hitting his target.
