My great great grandfather was Samuel P. McFarland – enlisted CO G 1 October 1862 in Warsaw, MO, Mustered out 20 July 1865 in Little Rock.
They must have become friends during the war – Samuel Williams married Samuel McFarland’s daughter Alpha in 1867 in her father’s home in Springfield. Then they all (McFarlands and Williams) moved to San Joaquin County, California.
I have ordered both the Demuth letters and the Shipley diary -- look forward to reading both of them.
