The two records you note are apparently of the same name. His records indicate he deserted on the march back from Prairie Grove along with his second Lieutenant. There might have been others along with them. There are no further records for him and it appears he was dropped from the rolls as he no longer appears in subsequent muster rolls.

As there is a piece of him in the Confederate Veteran Magazine of 1921, Vol. 29, one would assume his later service was honorable.

I do not possess a copy of that Volume.
