Re: William O. Blackmore of Carroll County

Michael,

Yes, I read about Bill Wilson's murder in Texas for his money. I think it's the same guy. I lay out the evidence:
--McKinney, Texas is close to where Bill Anderson's band wintered the winter of 1863/1864.
--A number of the survivors went to the Sherman, Marshall, McKinney area in and near Grayson County, TX after the war, because they liked the place from winters they spent there.
--Also, only Ray County, MO is between Clay and Carroll Counties, MO. In other words, Clay County is just a few miles west of Carroll County.
--The murderer in Texas said he joined the Confederate service at age 15, and the W. O. Blackmore of Clay County was age 12 in 1860, and joined the guerrillas in 1864. Do the math.
--"Very wicked men" well describes Bill Anderson's band. Any guerrilla who didn't want that level of mayhem and cutthroat work moved to one of the other bands. The bushwhackers could choose the level of skullduggery they wanted by which band they joined, and they were free to move around, and many did.
--Lastly, I could see there being another William Blackmore, but another William O. Blackmore? That's too much to be a coincidence. I admit that this is all circumstantial, but now we have too many coincidences.

I rest my case, Your Honor. Besides, discussing this now is not trying a capital crime case, but more like a civil case. We only need to prove by the preponderance of the evidence. If it makes you feel better, we can say "probably." but I would not slip down the slide to "possibly." No, I would definitely use "probably."
