The Missouri in the Civil War Message Board

Re: Highley Genealogy

Robert "Bob" Hugh Highley (3/11/1836- ) mentioned in wartime was John Highley's son by his first wife. He was said to be wounded in the Prairie du Rocher Raid and I located bits of info on him. I searched for him following the war and gathered some genealogy on him thru the family but they don't know what happened to him. Possibly he died in Illinois as his wife remarried in 1885 in Missouri. I can't place "Buck". A member of the family carried this nickname but was post-war. There was so many of this surname in Southeast Missouri that I tried to keep the line of John (the guerrilla) to a minimum. Also the descendants have done an excellent job that I didn't want to repeat any more than was necessary. Look to rootsweb.com and mackleygenealogy.com for good family data, both of course are essential in any Southeast Missouri research as so many intermarried with each other.
