Re: Nichols' Guerrilla Warfare in Civil War Missou

While I have used interlibrary loan periodically, mostly for works that are out of print, Nichols' books are not a good candidate for the short term loan in my opinion. I consider the texts excellent reference resources and that means that I need them handy year round. There is simply too much breadth to them to read once through a loan. I tend to read them more in sections at a time anyway, either for at time period or region, or sometimes following the careers of given officers or guerrillas.

Perhaps it is just me, but I find it difficult to read the many accounts of guerrilla warfare across the state in a "straight-through" manner as I would need to do for a loan. Part of it is that it always spawns searches of information on various related events/people as I read, but a larger factor for me is that I find the atrocities associated with guerrilla warfare (and countermeasures) emotionally draining in a way that typical battle/campaign studies are not.
