Further digging reveals that Greenville was living with his sister Susan Walton Hawkins in 1850, perhaps with maternal grandparents or (aunt and uncle) in Jasper Co MO. Of note Susan Hawkins married Theodore Salvater, a german immigrant who was in Nevada MO. The Salvater's were reportedly burned out of house and home in Carthage MO by Union forces. What is known for fact is that Theodore was a member of Dawson's 19th Arkansas Inf, Featherstone's Company (H?) enlisting in February 1862. He was captured in 1863 at Arkansas Post and sent to Alton and then on to Camp Douglas. His wife Susan Hawkins died in St. Louis in 1863, likely visiting husband. So Greenville certainly had contact with the southern leaning side of the war. The Walton's of which Greenville and Susan were living with hailed from Alabama.
