The Missouri in the Civil War Message Board

Re: Capt Wm Robinson, Newton County

I found William J Robinson, Sgt - Co F, 6th Cavalry. (familysearch.org says that Co F was recruited in Newton County MO, so that fits)

Then I read that the 6th Cavalry in Dec 1862 became known as the 11 Missouri Cavalry (which is associated with Livingston.)

But then on the Community & Conflict Impact on the Civil War of the Ozarks site (digital history from Springfield Library) I read this:

"Livingston’s six month enlistment expired in early 1862, and many of the men from the 11th Missouri Cavalry returned to Jasper County in February. The men found Union militia stationed throughout Southwest Missouri, and a garrisoned presence at Carthage. Many of the men joined Livingston as a band of scouts participating in guerrilla warfare to contest the Union’s control of the region. Livingston enlisted his men in the Provisional Army of the Confederate States, and they were designated as the 1st Battalion Missouri Cavalry (1st Indian Brigade). The group would come to be known as the Cherokee Spikes."

So I'm having trouble following the dates and changes of the 11th Cavalry.

Also, how do you interpret the line on the Capt Robinson index card: "Lt Col Boyd's report Oct 22, 1861" ?
