I did find him in Jackson Co Missouri on the 1900 census under the name of sire Kirk living near the Webbs and next to the Oldhams. So that is the one.
Many thanks. Now my search is for a Samuel Marshall Apperson who may or may not have had connections with the War. He was a big race horse adventurer, and might have just been buying horses for races. He was on the 1880 census and married a Sallie Gwenn in Jackson Co Missouri in 1878. I never saw him listed on the war rolls but just wondered if anyone had heard of him in connection to our men.
