Union Militias and Murders in South Central MO

Hugh Allison, Calloway Manes, Wilson Tilley - all had run-ins with the local "authorities" 1863-1864 before being murdered, some sources say in a search for gold. At least in the case of Manes and Tilley they had sold cattle that day or the day before. One account named the men in the Chitwood gang or Josh Chitwood's Company G as murderers. Richard and William Chitwood were with the 8th MSM and Josh Chitwood had been with the 9th MSM, the 47th EMM, and on special assignment under G.O. 107 before joining Bollinger's Camden County VMM just prior to the murders of Manes and Tilley. Please suggest sources that might provide more specific information about the Chitwood brothers or the participation of the MSM/EMM/VMM in attacks in Pulaski and Camden Counties. Thank you.
