Don't I know it! Some stuff we simply cannot prove, although it seems reasonable and likely from different vantage points. Sadly, that doesn't make it so. This is when we use words like "possibly," "perhaps," "likely" (a government favorite), "probably," and a few more like "approximately," and the ever popular "about." Of course, there are more of such words.

A close relative asked me several times over the years, "Bruce, you weren't there, so how can you know?" Of course he is right. The only answer I have to that is in sources and corroboration of sources, and to use those certain words above so the reader knows I think it is so, but cannot prove it. I will admit that Americans don't like that, and perhaps having to use "weasel words" like those will inspire somebody else to find a new source we currently don't have. The alternative is to fabricate, and sadly, some do that, too. I personally don't want that hanging on my reputation. Everybody makes mistakes, but to make up something because we simply want it to be so is a step in the wrong direction.
