posting bonds

I'd enjoy hearing feedback in regards of bond posting in the Civil War that was required of southern sympathizers, etc. I've heard many opinions, and I realize no two situations were exactly alike however, let's say "Jim Jones" posted a $2,000 bond in Laclede County, Mo. Did he really have to come up with cash? Perhaps he only had to post say, 10% of this? Or was he assessed on what he actually owned and required to front this as a cash collateral?? I have heard that the funds from all this bond posting was used towards militia expenses? One other question is what if he didn't honor his end of the deal? Imprisonment? Loss of property? I'd think this question would vary as well. Thanks, Garrett
