Dear Tom; Thank you very much. Several past, maybe a dozen, i got interrested in all this and read everything I would find. On Line has improved a great deal since. Will investigate.
Governor Ames was / is every unpopular in Mississippi among ex Confederates and their descendants such as myself.
My mama, who taught in the one room schools about World War I, always referred to him as that "Ole Adelebert Ames." Of course he was from Massechuetts (Sp) and it may have been impossible for him to suit regardless.
I did find where Ames owned, or perhaps owned an interest in, a flour mill in Northfield and apparently was on the streets that day.
I also found it interesting that on Find a Grave, Bill Anderson, Jesse James & William Quaintrell had Military head stones.
I / we in this area know little about Missouri & Kansas and the Border Wars.
I did dig into General Bowen & his Missouri Brigade in the Vicksburg area.
Interesting and different.
I tried to dodge the Siege of Vicksburg. tried to concentrate before and after
