The Missouri in the Civil War Message Board

The interest is all but gone

Hello everyone,

I have posted here many times and, this time, I wanted to bring attention to what is happening with the subject we love to discuss...the Civil War and border wars.
I received mail from the American Battlefield Trust with a rather disturbing letter in it. It addresses the loss of interest in the Civil War, how schools and colleges are bypassing teaching it and how educationally illiterate the younger generation has become. In one poll, some COLLEGE students thought the Civil War was before the American Revolution!
Also, my wife is on Facebook and told me today that a Civil War reenactment in Missouri (she couldn't remember exactly where) had a very sparse turnout.

We are losing this battle, folks. If there is lack of interest and education with the bigger battles (Antietam, Gettysburg, etc.), what do you think is happening to the smaller ones like Newtonia, Independence, etc.?

This needs a swift, hard and well centered kick in the a*s! Anyone have any ideas on how we jump start our local areas?

If Lee, Grant, Jackson, Sherman, and the like, all vanish, then Quantrill, Blunt, Anderson and McNeil are going to get absolutely buried.

SOMEthing needs to happen. NOW!
