Re: Resaca-Do You know These Men or are You ?

Information attending to his burial at Marietta says he was buried there. If my memory serves me, he may have been moved to marietta before he died. His monument was placed there so I suspect the researchers felt more strongly that Marietta was his final resting spot and not Resaca where he was killed. I am on the road, but will look at the dedication information that describes the process that made that determination.

Don't about whether he was buried on the battlefield or not, but I do know that men were moved from burial sites all along the railroad line, not just from Chickamauga. All the field hospitals and wayside hospitals had temorary grave sites.

I don't know when Resaca Cemmetery was established, but the first burials at Marietta resulted from deaths in a train collision in Sept. 1863 near Emerson. That's why the cemetery was established. So the cemetery at Marietta existed at the time that Standfor died in 1864.

It wasn't until 1866 that the Aid Society started disinterring soldiers from the north Georgia battle fields and moving them to Marietta. I look forward to finding more about this fine Southern Gentleman's final resting place, where ever that may be.
