Re: Union Soldiers from Mississippi

Laura,
The 1st Alabama Infantry of African Descent was organized in Corinth on May 21, 1863. This regiment was later redesignated the 55th United States Colred Troops on March 11, 1864. Three companies of another regiment, the 2nd Alabama Infantry of African Descent, were recruited in Corinth though the regiment was officially organized in Pulaski, TN. This regiment was later designated the 110th United States Colored Troops. In addition the 1st Alabama Siege Artillery of the USCT was also formed in Corinth in June of 1863.
There were an undetermined number of Mississippi men enlisted in the 1st Alabama Cavalry (US), a white unit, recruited mostly in the Huntsville, Al. area. One company was recruited around Camp Davies which was just to the south of Corinth.
