Re: Home Guard Harrison Co. Ms.

Ron,

Thanks for your response. I do have the unit wrong Dan was in the 3rd. As I recall the story Dan was first assigned to the defense of the Gulf Coast. His family relocated with him to Pass Christian. In '63 he was located to the area around Vicksburg. My father told me that his grandfather said that the family was also in Vicksburg. My father relates that his grandfather was in Vicksburg during the Union Siege. After the surrender of Vicksburg his family returned to the gulf coast until the end of the war. There are a number of questions I would like to ask my father but he passed away in 2000. I do not know any one else alive who knew my great grandfather. I characterized this story as a family legend because there is no documentation in the form of letters, diaries and photographs. I am relating this from my memory of my fathers reollections from his youth of sitting on the front porch and listening to his aging granfather's memory of events that occured over 60 years before.

Again thanks
John

If this is or is not an actual event I would like to look into and record or literature regarding marauders robbers and other lawless activity at the time. Can you recommend a source?
