Thank you for the information. My gggrandfather was a plantation owner in Lafayette, co. In the 1870 census, I thought it odd that his children were living with a schoolmaster and his wife on the plantation and gggrandfather and gggrandmother were not listed. Just can't figure it out. They went on to have 2 or 3 more children and show back up in the later census. I've wondered if they traveled or purposely hid during the 1870 census for reasons we don't know. Tammie Jones Wilson
