Jim, this man is my paternal 4th great-uncle. Below is the info I have on him...

Johns, William Thomas
7th Mississippi Infantry
Private Company C
Born: 1841 Amite County, Mississippi
Died: After August 1864
Father: Griffin Johns born: ABT 1815 Mississippi
Mother: Amelia Farrar Causey born: 30 MAR 1825 Mississippi
Marriage: Mildred Melissa Ann Westbrook born: 23 MAR 1845 Amite Co., MS Married: 30 JUL 1861 in Amite Co., MS
Note: On last surviving Regimental Muster Rolls August 1864
Note: killed near Woodville, MS. 1912 by blacks who ambushed him

Please note... family researchers who listed this info on him did not use the word "blacks" but "neg....". The point is I am not gonna be able to confirm this unless I could find an newspaper article etc. Then it hit me, this may have come from a pension application. I know he is listed on the 1870 Amite County census with his wife Mellisa Ann Westbrook. Evidently she passed away and he got married to this "Katie Johns".

Hopefully his pension will provide some info on all this. Thanks for the grave look-up too. I have only recently started researching him. I got his pic this week from Danny Chadrick of Port Author, Texas when he sent me the Richard Chaddick pic. Here is his pic for your viewing pleasure. Thanks for the help my friend.
