Ken:
According to General Orders No. 2 (O.R. Ser. 1, Vol 49, Pt. 2, p 992), Brig Gen. Wirt Adams' brigade, of Chalmers' Division was to be composed thusly on February 18, 1865:
Wood's Regiment (Miss) Cavalry, Col. R. C. Wood
38th Regiment (Miss) Cavalry (Mntd Inf), Col. P. Brent
9th Regiment (Miss) Cavalry, Col. H.H. Miller
McGuirk's Regiment (Miss) Cav, Col. J. McGuirk
14th Regiment Confederate Cav, Col. Dumonteil
Moorman's Battalion Miss Cav
23rd Battalion Miss Cav
Butler's Company (Miss) Cav
Ashby's Company (Miss) Cav
Wither's Company (Miss) Cav
As I have quoted before, by late March 1865, only two of these regiments (presumably the first two) were present at Macon, Miss., when with Scott's LA Cav. Brigade the command moved from that place to West Point, prior to making the fateful movements of April 5-7, 1865.
No mention is made of any Arkansas troops. I am impressed that it was the intention that as of this organization, Adams' brigade would be entirely of Mississippi cavalry.
Does anyone know if any of these other units actually reported to and were subject to field command after this date of Gen. Adams? Evidently the last three named companies were Reserves, and the assignment in Gen. Ord. No. 2, above, was incorrect.
Also, at some point King's (Missouri) Battery was attached to Adams' command during this period, but when is not clear. Does anybody know this?
