The command of Brig. Gen. Wm Wirt Adams in April of 1865 consisted of his own brigade and that of Col. John Scott, Louisiana Cavalry. The regiments which I have identified as on the field of action April 6, 1865 include Wood's Confederate (1st Miss./Adams'/Wood's Miss.) Cavalry and 38th Miss. Mntd. Infantry, along with 1st and 3rd Louisiana Cav. Regiments and the 18th Louisiana Cav. Battalion. Primary sources indicate that only Mississippi troops were in combat with Croxton's Federal brigade on that date.
In late March 1865 Adams had indicated that two regiments of his own brigade (presumably those named above) and Scott's Cavalry Brigade made the movement from Macon to West Point. Adams was to occuppy the latter place after the remainder of Forrest's Cavalry Corps left there to move into Alabama to counter Federal incursions into that state. Several Mississippi regiments/companies, assigned to Adams' brigade in late February 1865, may not have been active with the command in April.
Any letters, diaries, memoirs, reports, articles, etc. from individuals connected to this command, including Adams himself, would be of the greatest interest.
