Hi, Ben, yes, George J.D. Funchess was my greatgrandfather. He is buried in the Old Crystal Springs cemetary just west of Crystal Springs. He was a graduate of Memphis Medical College, organized the Westville Guards, and stayed with them until his 12 months was up, and was released from duty at Centreville, VA. He was 47 years of age at the time. Several officers mustered out at that time from the 16th, and it is my understanding that he returned to Mississippi with Major Thomas R. Stockdale, who at the time, was with the 16th, but upon his return formed the 4th Miss. Cav. My greatgrandfather moved to Crystal Springs, and had a medical practice. He treated the wounded from both Champion Hill and Vicksburg in the old Head House which faced the railroad in Crystal Springs, which was converted into a hospital during those conflicts. I remember the building well, for our family doctor while I was growing up was Oscar Eubanks, who's office was on the lower floor of that building. It was demolished back in the 70's or 80's, I believe, and I understand that there were bloodstains in the floor boards of the upstairs discovered during the demolition. I have some more info on him, but I will have to dig it up. I believe I have met you in the past, probably through the Jackson camp before we formed ours down here at McCOmb. I will have to do some looking, but I also think there is a Fatheree in my ancestry somewhere, through marriage. I will check that out, too. There are two bound books on the Funchess ancestry, and I have both of them.
